Michelle Sutherland is a theater director and performance creator who develops original music theater and opera. Michelle began her work in the field of performance as the guitarist of an eight-piece gypsy jazz punk band. Her work with this ensemble spanned five years and taught her valuable lessons in creating and sustaining punk rock levels of co-creativity. Michelle formed the artist collective Theater Plastique

being the first in a trilogy exploring what it means to be American. The second installment, Emily Dickinson OUTER SPACE!
will be workshopped in San Francisco in July and will premiere at The Bushwick Starr in Brooklyn in September. The American Trilogy concludes with Charles Bukowski ON ICE!
